To enter the 575 Grant, non-profits in the Austin area had to submit a Haiku that represents the heart and passion of their organization. Here are the Haikus written by members of HMHB:

1. In the embrace of                2. It takes a village
Community supporters                To protect mother and babe.
Mother, baby thrive.                 A public embrace.

3. State law supports Ma             4. Sustained by love flow
Can't see baby's needs?               Baby grows and mother knows
We spread the good word             Her city stands guard.

5. Flowing love sustains              6. Milk flows more freely
As mom nurses, baby thrives            Must be protected by laws
Supported by people.                 Moms and babes rejoice.

7. We heal the culture.               8. My hands on your hands.
The milk of human kindness             We cradle the crying babe
Flows more freely now.                And guide him to breast.

9. Our babies require                10. Advocate, support
The milk of human kindness;              Encircling mother and babe
We nurture mothers!                   Joyfully breastfeed

11. Breastfeeding rates too low        12. Healthy Moms & Babes
So much research to support             Have milk flowing like rain
Society shuns                         Sheltered by good friends.

13. Groups of women meet           14. Without Breastfeeding
Try to help defeat monster               Where would little baby be?
Non-breastfeeding foes                 Crying Mom tonight

Have milk flowing like rain               Now milk and love flow freely
Sheltered by good friends.               Every baby thrives.
